Where are the Westons Now?

Ever wonder what became of Harry and the gang?  Send me an e-mail and tell me what you think the Westons and their friends are up to today!

Where We Left Off:
Empty Nest ended its seven-year run in 1995. When the show closed, Harry sold the house and moved to Vermont to accept a teaching position, with Dreyfuss in tow. Barbara was living in Tucson, AZ. Carol married airline pilot Kevin Millen and, with son Scotty, started her own family. Charley remained in the old neighborhood -- although in one last-season episode, he did find out he was the father of a seventeen-year-old son. Laverne married her childhood friend, Dr. Matt Kane, and moved back to Hickory to work in his office. Patrick, last seen during season 6, moved to Paris after finding out Carol was pregnant with his child. Emily had moved back to school after the fifth season ended. Maxine remained at the Canal Street Clinic, and Sophia at Shady Pines.

Harry Weston continues to reside in Vermont, as a renowned pediatrics professor, having now also added world-famous author to his list of credits. He's written three bestselling books--Love Your Body And Those Who Love You; The PediaMagician's Little Book For Children and The Doctor Isn't Scary, He's Your Pal Harry!--with more on the way. He still frequently gets visits from his daughters and friends, and exchanges letters and phone calls with Laverne, Charley and Maxine. He continues to date, still in search of the woman he loves. He says he'll retire someday, but he just loves his job too much.

Barbara has become lieutenant of her Tucson police force and recently gotten engaged! After many, many boyfriends, Barbara has met the perfect man for her. She and her fiancee haven't yet set a date, as they're having too much fun with life. Barbara gets phone calls and letters from her loving sister every day, starting with, "Guess who, Barbie-Barb?" But still constantly being driven crazy by Carol doesn't harm Barbara's everlasting high on life. The newest development in Barbara's life is in her prosperous lieutenant's position. Many news stories now center around Barbara and her force, making her one of Tucson's most popular citizens.

Carol and Kevin Millen have gotten separated and then gotten back together so many times by now Carol is convinced they have set a record. She's written to The Guinness Book Of World Records and tried to book spots on Donahue and Sally Jessie Raphael. And it's a good thing Carol and Kevin are still together--Kevin has given Carol a second child! This time it's a girl that the spouses have named Charlotte, after the famous Charlotte Bronte. The relationship between Scotty and Charlotte appears shaky, but Carol is positive the entire family will live in perfect peace and harmony. In the meantime, they have moved into greater Miami, and Carol has since been in the process of exploring every office of psychiatry in their 20-mile radius. Things look lovely for Carol, except for one little problem--she's lonely!

Not much has changed with Charley, who works on The Ocean Queen and occasionally performs stand-up, which he feels is improving but which he just gets worse at. For old times's sake, Charley lives in his old, comfortable nest. He's broken in his new neighbors, who have gotten used to him by now, but he feels like he's still back with his old pal Harry. But not everything is the same with Charley. He's reunited with his son Raymond, and is astonished to find out that Raymond has gotten married. He tells his father that he should settle down, which to Charley means he should know someone three days before sleeping with them. But with Charley Dietz, his best friend--besides his son--is still his father figure, Harry.

Laverne and her husband Matthew Kane live in their hometown, Hickory, Arkansas. When they moved back in 1995, Laverne made sure they found a house just outside her parents' range so her mother would not overbear her. She and Matt have been trying to have their first child since they got married, but haven't yet. In the meantime, Laverne continues as a pushy, bossy nurse, and makes certain she keeps in touch with Harry with her long letters and telephone calls--which mainly consist of heart-to-hearts and instructions for Harry how to better educate his students, and of course, several Hickory stories. Laverne received a shock a few years ago when her first husband, Nick, came back from Tokyo to reconcile things and found her in Hickory. Upon finding out she remarried, Nick was disappointed but wished them well.

During the past years, Carol also would receive sporadic letters from Patrick Arcola, her boyfriend that she went out with for a year before meeting Kevin. Patrick writes to her to reminisce on the time they dated and also to bring her up to speed on his life. He's begun to love Paris, where he's been living, and studied the culture and art of France. He says he's going to make it really big one day...although he's not sure what kind of odd taste the French have, not properly appreciating his art.

Emily, the youngest Weston daughter, would be the family member Harry would see in person the most, as she still loves to travel all over the world. She's more happy and free-wheeling than ever. Making new friends wherever she goes, Emily also has a new boyfriend that Harry thinks is very strange, but doesn't disapprove of. Although it is a bit weird for him that Emily and her new boyfriend now BOTH call Harry by his first name.

Dr. Maxine Douglas, Harry's partner for two years at the Canal Street Clinic, still runs the clinic, but now standing on much steadier ground. Years ago, the clinic was near bankruptcy and thanks to the efforts of Harry and Laverne's colorful partnership, joined by Maxine, the CSC held its ground. Maxine has since become another big name in her neck of Miami, pledging to whatever charity organizations and foundations she can find. Ironically, the grumpy Maxine loves children, like Harry, and she made her most famous move by gathering her staff and people she associates with and starting her own Miami chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Sophia Petrillo, one of the Westons's old neighbors in Miami, is, of course, still alive and well. Since the beginning of the 21st century, Sophia's had one thing on her mind: Her centennial. In a few short years, Sophia will turn 100. Still contemplating the most "non-lethal" way to celebrate, Sophia never fails to accomplish something new. In her most recent years, Sophia has pulled Shady Pines' patients to march and rebel against the home, eventually leaving it to stay with her friends Charley and Maxine, won the lottery, entered numerous Italian cook-offs, taken a ride in a hot-air balloon, visited Sicily more times back and forth and seen many more recent movies. One of her favorite movies is Stuart Little, because she thinks that Grandma Estelle in the Little family reminds her of someone.

And finally, this leaves everyone's buddy, Dreyfuss. The canine genius relocated with Harry to Vermont years ago, quite a moving experience, if you will. Harry's told friends that Dreyfuss adjusted to the conditions of Vermont early on, but he's never seen SNOW before! Fortunately for Dreyf, in the neighborhood where Harry and he live, there are plenty of female St. Bernards and Golden Retrievers. Dreyfie may take a little while to get used to the weather, but he'll never grow tired of the company!
