"My heartfelt thanks to you for keeping Empty Nest alive in spirit and on the Internet." - Dinah Manoff
The Days of Kristy McNichol's life
Empty Nest star Kristy McNichol posed for a photo with actor Chandler Massey of Days of Our Lives shortly after coming out to People magazine (more on that below). The pair share the same publicist, Jeff Ballard, who arranged the meeting.
"I was happy to help shape her statement and lend her my support on her very personal decision to come out," Ballard told Empty Nest Online, adding that Kristy's People.com announcement had passed 1.5 million hits just days after it went live in January.
Massey, who stars as gay teen Will Horton on the daytime soap, seemed to enjoy meeting Kristy. "She is a wonderful actress and is so warm and down to earth,” he said. Check out the Greg in Hollywood site for the full story and photo.
Kristy McNichol comes out to People magazine
Kristy McNichol, who has remained largely out of the spotlight since leaving Empty Nest in 1992, has come out as a lesbian in an effort to be true to herself and help those bullied because of their sexual orientation. You can read the article on Kristy, and see a recent photo of her with her partner of 20+ years, on People's website.
Nearly a week after People broke the news on Kristy's coming out, she released a second statement to the magazine in which she spoke about the reaction she's seeing: "I'm overwhelmed with the love and support of my family, friends and fans."
Empty Nest Online congratulates Kristy on her decision to be open about who she is!
For Dinah Manoff, directing "The Outsiders" a family affair
If you were in the Bainbridge Island area of Washington in January, hopefully you were able to catch "The Outsiders" by Bainbridge Performing Arts. The play, an adaption of the classic S.E. Hinton coming of age novel, was directed by Empty Nest's Dinah Manoff - and starred her whole family! Dinah's husband, Arthur, and sons Dashiell, Oliver and Desi all had parts in the play.
Check out this interview with Dinah about the production from Kitsap Sun and visit the official Bainbridge Performing Arts website for more details.
It's a girl for Empty Nest star Lisa Rieffel!
Empty Nest Online would like to congratulate series star Lisa Rieffel and her husband, Johnny Dunn, on the birth of their daughter, Jolee Rose, in December! Lisa played Emily Weston during the show's fifth season. She and Johnny are members of the popular indie rock band Killola.
An Empty Nest mini-reunion!
Dinah Manoff recently appeared at the Hollywood Show Fan Convention in Burbank to reunite with cast members from the film Grease, in which she played Marty Maraschino. But the Pink Ladies weren't the only ones Dinah reconnected with. Fellow Empty Nest'er David Leisure was also on hand. To the right is a photo of Dinah and David from the event.
Matthew Rettenmund of Boy Culture had the following to say about meeting Dinah: Dinah Manoff was a sweetheart. She had a beneficent smile on her face for everyone and seemed genuinely touched to be getting the attention...She was really warm and down to earth.
